Blind Israelis & Their Guide Dogs on the 2012 March of the Living

For the first time ever, with the help of the Canadian Jewish community, a group of blind Israelis and their Guide Dogs took part in the March of the Living from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Yom Hashoah 2012. (Photos Yossi Zeliger.)

Lighting a torch in honor of all the minorities murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust including those with disabilities is Motti Levy, a representative of the Israel Guide Dog Centre for the Blind. His father was from the city of Oswiecim (Auschwitz in German). During the war, he and his mother fled to Lvov and then were deported to Siberia. His father came to Palestine as a young boy – 11 years old- in 1943 with the Children of Teheran. Other members of his family were murdered in the Shoah.
