Since 1955, Yad Vashem has worked to fulfill its mandate to preserve the memory of the six million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust by collecting their names, the ultimate representation of a person’s identity. Millions of victims remain unidentified. Yad Vashem urgently calls upon Jewish communities to recover their names through a worldwide Names Recovery Project. Unless we assume collective responsibility for completing this vital mission, some of them may be lost forever. This is a race against time, before those who remember them are no longer with us.

I believe education is key. Educating your family, friends and all those who cross your path is the best way to create awareness and prevent something like this from happening again. I presented an overview of my experience on the March of the Living to a University class of mainly non-Jewish students, it would amaze you what they do not know. Not only that, I was amazed at what they wanted to know and how much they wanted to learn. While most presentations were ignored, mine left the entire class asking for more. All it takes is some education to increase awareness, create peace, and keep out ancestors memory alive.
