Spotlight on Argentina

Argentina joined the March of the Living in 1992 at the initiative of Gilbert Lewi Z”L, who was president of Hebraica Argentina.

Since then, more than 5,000 young people and adults from more than 20 institutions participated from Argentina.

The first group of MOTL from Argentina was a large one formed by 80 people from Buenos Aires and other provinces.

The participants were adults, students from high school and universities, young people who came from different Jewish institutions. That was our first experience.

Then we started to travel every two years until 1999, when the program took place annually.

The program was declared of Educational Interest by the Legislature of the Government of the  City of Buenos Aires in 2014.

During 2020 we developed the #EnMarcha Podcast, which was declared by the Legislature of the City of Buenos Aires of interest for the Promotion of Human Rights.

After the march we witness how the trip transforms the participants.

Some of them get involved in projects related to the Jewish community.

For example the project APRENDIZ, in which one young person gets in touch with a survivor and after several meetings, commits to transmit the story of the survivor.

Another example is the interest of participants in studying Shoah in several courses, including YAD Vashem.
