Memory is not the opposite of the future. It is its foundation.

A historian who thought she knew the Holocaust discovers, on the walk from Auschwitz to Birkenau, that memory is an inheritance to carry — marching in the names of the family her grandfather, Sidney Handler, could never lay to rest.
