Alumni Reflections: Jessica Shteremberg, Mexico, 2016

What is the name of the March of the Living Delegation / Group that you traveled with? Mexico

Year(s) attended: 2016

What was the most memorable moment of your experience? The most memorable moment was in Treblinka when I was standing by the stone for Dr. Janush Korchack, who died with his children in that camp.

What impact did Poland have on you? We visited my husband’s grandfathers house in Warsaw, it was quite impressive, our guide was very kind with us. I learned that the Polish people have suffered a lot too, in the wars, with the Russians. The day of the march I meet a Group of Polish people that support Israel.

What impact did Israel have on you? Unfortunately we had to come back early to Mexico. We had a family Emergency and we weren’t able to get to Israel. That was very hard and sad for us.

How were you impacted by the overall experience? I learned about the worst and the best of the human race. We can be both. Our survivor Mr. Abraham Majzner is quite an example, he taught me how to overcome any situation with dignity, courage and strength.

What else would you like to share about your experience? We have to practice tolerance with people or groups that are different from us. We must not repeat the past, we have to forgive, but NEVER FORGET.
